Breckenridge Snow Sculptures
Every January, since 1991, Breckenridge, Colorado hosts one of the most prestigious snow-carving events in the world. The international snow sculpture competition welcomes teams from France, Italy, Russia, Lithuania, England, Switzerland, Mexico, Canada, USA, and the Netherlands to this annual event. Each four-member team competes without the use of power tools, internal support structures, or colorants for a total of 65 intense hours. The snow is well packed to hold it’s shape but with numerous warm weather days the risk of snow melting can be a factor. Many of the artists work around the clock on the final day to complete their masterpiece. These artists transform a 12-ft; 20-ton block of man made snow into astounding formations. The sculptures are then judged and viewed by both visitors and locals alike. Located at the Riverwalk center in downtown Breckenridge, these breathtaking creations can be enjoyed while shopping, eating lunchl, or just walking the street.
