Lomax Mine The town of Breckenridge was known in the olden days as a place for gold. The Lomax Mine was one of those mining operations active in the 1860’s. The method used was to recover the gold nuggets and flakes that had been eroded from the rocks. Hydraulic mining techniques were used to separate and recover the gold from the stream deposits. You can view the equipment used at the Lomax mining operation and actual cabins that miners and their families lived. A restored stable and wagon repair shop serves as a museum. The Lomax Mine can be found at 301 Ski Hill Road on the way to Peak 8 ski area. Ski Hill can be located off of Main Street in Breckenridge at the first stop light in the center of town.
