Tennessee Pass Tennessee Pass – A special attribute to Tennessee Pass is the unique dining experience you can have at the Tennessee Pass Cookhouse. To reach this area it is about a mile hike, bike or Jeep ride through the woods to the remote mountain setting. The food is exceptional and the ambience outstanding. At10, 200 feet, Tennessee Pass was the highest mainline rail route in North America. It's recently been de-activated by Union Pacific after the merger but the incredible history is quite amazing. The railroad once had a whistle stop at Solitude on its Tenmile Canyon Line near where Copper Mountain Resort now sits. The D&RG built narrow gauge railroad was built over the pass in 1881 then a tunnel was built in 1890, which still is used today. The Colorado Trail enters the Swatch Mountain Range and begins south. Directions: Trail north form Leadville on US-24 about 9 miles to the top of Tennessee Pass. Colonel John C. Fremount discovered this point in the summer of 1845 on his way to California.
