Visit Breckenridge, ColoradoThe year was 1859 when glittering gold was first found in Breckenridge, the first permanent town on Colorado's western slope. Just north from where town now sits, on the Upper Blue River, a man named Ruben Spalding panned the first 13 cents worth of placer gold. From there Breckenridge boomed. By 1880 the town boasted 18 saloons, 10 restaurants, 3 dance halls, and a number of laundries, physcians, bakeries, boarding houses, and mining exchanges. Soon the first train would steam into Breckenridge, schools would be built, fire houses erected, and newspapers begun. And all the while, it was the adventerous spirit of man that brought it all to life. Today Breckenridge is as wild and as thriving as ever, and the spirit of adventure remains strong in the heart of the community. The soul of the pioneers who started this town, is the same soul in the modern day pioneers that keep it going. Breckenridge is a place where people work hard, ski hard, play hard, and love to spend their days in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Come visit Breckenridge and see what makes us stand out. |
