Mt. Royal This popular hike is not for those who are looking for a nice easy flat trial. The hike up Mt. Royal is straight up so get ready for a nice workout with rewarding views at the top. To reach the Mt. Royal trailhead, park at the park-n-ride off the Frisco Main Street Exit off I-70. Take the paved bike path toward Breckenridge and look for the trailhead sign on the right side of the paved path. This trail travels through the old mining town of Masontown and remains of mining cabins can be seen as you travel up the hill. An avalanche off of Mt. Victoria destroyed most of these cabins. Luckily the buildings had been abandoned for years so no one was hurt. When you reach the top of the hill there will be a trail to the right. This is the trail to the top of Mt. Royal. If you were to continue straight you will be on the trail to Peak One. The view of Frisco, Lake Dillon, Buffalo, and Ten Mile Canyon is amazing. There is room to explore on top of Mt. Royal but be careful for the drop off is quite steep.
