Iron Horse Classic
Located in Durango, Colorado, this race was conceived from a railroad worker on the Durango/Silverton railroad operation and has been in existence since 1880. The race began with one man trying to beat the trail by bike over to Silverton. Eventually this strong biker won and had the bragging rights throughout the entire town. In 1972,the first official celebration of this train run began in the spring. This event has grown so that others may have the bragging rights of their community against the train. In past few years, other events have contributed to this classic event such as criteriums, circuit races, road races, tours, BMX events, trials, dual slaloms, team trial rides, and mountain bike races. The race happens every Memorial Day weekend and is a great event in the mountains of Southwestern Colorado. http://www.ironhorsebicycleclassic.com/
