The train is educational, convenient, traditional and fun. The train helped to colonize Grand County. During the early days, many of the individuals who lived in Winter Park were helping to construct the railroad and Moffat tunnel. From the 1950’s to the 1960’s the Ski Train was used mostly for the younger Eskimo Ski Club. In 1980 the Ski Train had a sharp decline in riders and began struggling. In 1988, it was bought by Ansco Investment Company, which launched a new business plan aimed at rejuvenating the train. The ridership increased and was widely accepted. Today the train can transport 750 passengers, more than any other scheduled passenger train in the U.S. With the train stopping 100 yards from the base of the ski lifts of Winter Park; it is easier, safer, and more convenient than driving. The train is an excellent way to visit the mountains of Colorado! Related Train Rides Information:
