Backcountry Responsibility The backcountry in the National Forest is a beautiful place, but can present potential risks. Please take safety precautions at all times and be aware of changing weather conditions and terrain. Some of the hazards that may be occur in the backcountry are avalanches, obstacles such as rocks, trees, and stumps, over exertion, hypothermia, becoming lost, mining remains, severe weather, and other people. Use caution and respect other snowmobilers and non-motorized travelers. 1) Respect all users of the trail 2) Tell someone not on the trip where you are going and when you should be back 3) Bring food, water, and extra clothing 4) Sign in if there is a sign in area 5) Bring a mini first aid kit 6) Have beacon, probe and shuffle available in case of avalanche 7) Be aware of changing temperatures and weather conditions 8) Do not disturb animals in their habitats 9) Keep a compass on you and be aware of your surroundings 10) Communicate with all members and have a set meeting place Please Keep in Mind: Snowmobiling is a dangerous sport. Please be respectful of others around you that share the backcountry. Be courteous of your speed and the temperature outside because frostbite is fairly common.
