BiodieselBiodiesel is a renewable fuel that can be manufactured from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant greases and can be produced domestically. It is a safe fuel that reduces air pollutants such as particulates, CO2, hydrocarbons and air toxics. The best thing about biodiesel is that it operates in conventional-ignition diesel engines with no alterations and is safer than petroleum diesel. The future for this renewable resource will develop to buses, construction equipment, transportation trucks, heating homes, basically the list goes on and the possibilities are endless. Currently, Breckenridge transportation has become a jet-setter for this renewable fuel source, operation a majority of their public transportation on the fuel. Due to the high elevation, Breckenridge wanted to reduce the amount of air pollutants associated with petroleum and has switched their diesel fleet of vehicles to the soy-based biodiesel fuel. This includes all public work vehicles at the ski area and transportation vehicles throughout Summit County.
