Heeney - Unique ExcursionIf you want small town charm and a base for all recreational activities on Green Mountain Reservoir, a trip to Heeney is where you seek. Heading nouth of Silverthorne on Highway 9 you will parallel the Blue River on the right side and the Gore range on the left, and pass lush ranchland landscape worked by the same families for generations. Just before you reach Green Mountain Reservoir, make a left before the bridge at the sign pointing to Heeney. A stroll down “Main Street” welcomes shops and eateries that are sure to leave you sated. Perhaps a well-established hiking trail to lower and upper Cataract Lakes is more your style. Heeney’s claim to fame is the infamous Tick Festival. The Tick parade is possibly the most colorful event in the entire Lower Blue River Valley. Even though ticks are difficult to uncover, deer and elk do find them in their habitat. |
