Ski and Snowboard Terms Fakie – Riding the opposite direction that is normal for the riderFreestyle– A style that emphasis on park and pipe riding and performing many tricks Tail grab – A grab to the back of a snowboard off of a cliff or a jump. Hucking – Tricks done off a jump or cliff usually at high speed and height Stomping – Finishing a maneuver solid and in control, with style Corduroy – The nicely smooth groomed look of a slope after the machines pass over it. Pipe Dragon – Not a creature from medieval times, but a machine that grooms the walls of the halfpipe Jibing – A playful, smooth sub-style of freestyle that uses all kinds of natural and man-made obstacles to perform tricks Grinds – The connection between the snowboard/skis and a rail Freeride – A style that focuses on big mountain terrain, including cruising, powder turns, cliffs, jumps, and trees. It entails making the most out of the terrain that is available. Alpine – Usually referred to a snowboarder with hard boots and board that is made for extreme carving and speed. Centered stance – This refers to the position of the binding having them placed exactly in the middle with equal direction from either side.
