South Platte South Platte For all the Denverites that are looking to paddle the South Platte at Confluence makes for a very enjoyable day. If you are visitor to the area, a stop at the REI in Denver is well worth a look to check out the paddlers at the river right next to the store. REI will let you demo certain Kayaks in the river if you are thinking of buying a boat. Onlookers can watch the kayakers show off their stuff at the bridge overlooking a few of the play waves on the river. One of my favorite spots to Kayak is Waterton Canyon. This is one stretch of river that can be quite deceiving. You may want to go down this river with some experienced kayakers who know what to expect or make sure that you look at each of the rapids in much detail. Many of the rapids are horizon line drops so determining which way to go on a read and run basis might get you to the wrong spot or in a very sticky hole.
