SubalpineSubalpine – This is the eco-system that forms the highest countiuous pristine growth in Colorado. Present from 9,000 feet to the timberline. The growing season here is limited to the frost free months of July and August. Some of the flowers that blossom in the summer months are Parry primrose, rosy paintbrush, sticky geranium, and orange sneezeweed. Subalpine forests support fewer animals than the montane due to the lingering snow cover and seeds in the understory. Some of the animals that you might see are pine martens, red-backed voles, and deer mice. |
