What to throw on the big wedding day?

Summit County What to throw on the big wedding day?Rice
Rice was commonly the most popular item thrown at the bride and groom as they exited the church. In recent years, rice has not become as popular due to the fact that it is dangerous for the birds that might come down and eat it. Speculation is inconclusive weather this is true or not. Some believe that rice can be dangerous if stepped on and either party might slip on the rice and fall down.

Confetti
The nice attribute of confetti is that it is soft, colorful, people can throw it, and it even looks good in your hair. The downfall is that it is messy and someone will be responsible to clean up the mess after you make your grand exit. Another good thing about confetti is that you can get a lot cheep. So if you are looking for a more festive exit, confetti is the way to go!

Bird seed
Birdseed is what replaced the rice so that the birds may come and eat up the seed after the wedding is over. Due to the danger level of slipping and falling, it is about the same as rice. Birdseed is more colorful than rice, but again the seeds are not soft and will still get everywhere.

Bells
Both bells and noise makers may make a dramatic with sounds from the crowd. The question to ask is do you want a loud exit. You can get the soft style bells which would make for a very romantic getaway and you will not have anything in your hair and on your clothes.

Butterflies
I did go to one wedding where each of the guests were given butterflies to release into the air. The way that this works is that the larval of the butterfly are placed in a paper package where they are born. Each guest must slowly open the package and wait a minute or two for the beautiful butterflies to awake and get use to their wings. Finally when they came to the butterflies landed on the brides train and it is neat to see them gathered together around the bride.

Flower Petals
Probably one of the most stunning methods of exiting the church. Flower petals are soft, smell wonderful, and seemingly float to the ground. The idea is one that gives a sense of royalty while you and your new husband walk on flower petals. The downfall is that they can be expensive. One option you have is to buy the fake ones, but honestly it does not lend the same effect and will need to be cleaned up afterwards.

Potpourri
Potpourri might not be as soft as flower petals but it certainly has a wonderful smell. The nice attribute of the sweet smelling mix is that guests will remember that scent and so will you and your husband.

Fireworks
What a better way to make a dramatic exit with fire in the sky. Fireworks portray the celebration and excitement of the newlyweds. This is an excellent way to literally light up the sky! The one downfall is that as we all know fireworks have a lasting impression when the sky is dark. If you are planning a day wedding, the fireworks might give the same effect that you would get in the evening hours.

Change
There is an interesting Scottish tradition for the groom to throw change out the window of their transportation leaving the church. The change is for the young children and gives the children something to look forward to and excitement in gathering the change. The nice thing about the change is that it will be picked up and you will see many happy faces of children gathering the lute. However, if you do not have at least a few children at the wedding, I would not expect you would see the same effect with adult guest reaching down to pick up the change.
